How Not To Waste Good Freelance Writing Opportunities
The life of a freelance writer is fun and you can make a good living. You get to work on your own terms at the jobs that interest you. There are a few tips to finding unusual jobs or not wasting opportunities. Consider these ideas:
- Follow up
-when you finish a job, follow up with a thanks and ask if other work is available
- Always try to finish early
-when you finish early, rather than at the last minute, your clients will be very impressed
- Look at the client, not the pay
-if you use a third party system and can look at the client’s profile, check and see how many jobs he or she has bought. If they use a freelancer on a regular basis, you might want to bid just a tiny bit lower. Do not go so low that it is not worth the job, but do see if you can get client that will offer repeat jobs. Remember, any time you do not have to look for a job is time that can be spent writing
- Look everyday
-if you want to stay busy, then you need to look for jobs every day
- Edits and proofing
-I always do the first edit for free as long as it is reasonable, clients like it when you back up your work with actions, I will not do several edits especially when I can tell that the client is using me for gain
- No free sample tests
-do not do tests for free, let your work stand on its own, this is your job and giving work away is not professional in the least. I do tests for pay and have been asked to do this quite often
- Use an escrow company-I only work for third party companies who escrow, I like to write, not chase my money
- Read the reviews
-I always read the reviews carefully before I join a writing company, some of them have extreme rules and high fees. I belong to two companies and am able to find more than enough work. You can find out a lot about a company from its reviews and blog comments.
These tips should save you from wasting good freelance writing opportunities as you begin your new and exciting career. Feel free to use this list as you navigate the waters of being a paid writer.
